About Us

We are not a Government agency but a community-owned and focused organisation. More than 50% of our annual running costs are funded by local fundraising efforts. Volunteers are the great strength of Marine Rescue Batemans Bay Unit, and its people, pride, dedication and commitment make a true team.

Marine Rescue Batemans Bay has a great team of Fundraising volunteers dedicated to raising funds to support our day-to-day operations. This fundraising enables the Unit to undertake water training activities and support for the Base building costs etc. The activities are critical to the role MR Batemans Bay.  Our fundraising activities include Market Stalls, Bingo at the Batemans Bay Soldiers Club, Sausage Sizzles, and Raffles.

All our volunteers are professionally trained to strict standards and accredited by the peak NSW rescue authority, the State Rescue Board. They are required to undergo continual training to maintain skill levels.  All volunteers commit to fundraising throughout the year as well as Radio and Crew duties.

Batemans Bay Unit is a designated SARCC (Search and Rescue Coordination Centre). Our boat crew are on the roster 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Our radio base is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year to support the boating community.

We provide several vital safety services to the NSW and surround area boating communities:

– Swift, coordinated marine emergency response

– Boating safety education and marine licence course for local boaters

– Continuous radio coverage along the coastline.

Our vessels are fitted with state-of-the-art navigation, electronics, communication and first aid equipment, including lifesaving automatic defibrillators and oxygen therapy.

When heading out on the water, make sure you use your marine radio to log on with your local Marine Rescue Batemans Bay Unit so someone responsible is keeping watch for you. If you don’t Log Off when you’re due back, our members will swing into action to find you.
