Marine Rescue Batemans Bay is proud to be part of a statewide network of over 3,000 professionally trained volunteers dedicated to saving lives on the water. By joining our team, you’ll become part of a vibrant, community-focused organisation delivering vital safety services to the NSW boating public and, more specifically, our local community.
Volunteers must be aged 16 years or older. If you already have fundraising, radio or boating experience, fantastic, we will build on that. If not, we will teach you everything you need to know, from the basics of safe boating to obtaining your Boating Licence, First Aid certification, and Marine Radio Operator’s Certificate of Proficiency and much more, through our professional, high-quality training processes.
Marine Rescue Batemans Bay holds a position of trust within the community. As part of our commitment to safety and integrity, all applicants are required to undergo a National Criminal History Record Check (CrimTrac) before being offered membership. A criminal record does not automatically disqualify you; each application is assessed on its individual merits. To get the process underway, you can submit your Expression of Interest. Alternatively, if you are familiar with Marine Rescue, you can proceed directly to our membership application form.
Communications
Our radio operators monitor the airwaves around-the-clock for emergency calls from boaters in distress and dispatch rescue teams in response to emergencies and other incidents. They maintain vital communications during rescue operations and also provide a range of essential safety services.

Our rescue vessel crews are equipped with state-of-the-art vessels for their life-saving work to respond to emergencies and other incidents on the water, returning thousands of boaters home safely each year and providing operational support to a range of community events and celebrations on the iconic Sydney Harbour and regional waterways.

Every frontline team needs a support crew. Our volunteers also take on important unit training, management, fundraising, maintenance, catering and other administrative roles needed to maintain operational standards and readiness.

Express Interest
Interested in finding out more? Complete the Expression of Interest (EOI) form on our website. You will be asked to provide information about yourself, including your preferred Marine Rescue NSW unit. Your details will then be provided to your preferred unit
Next Steps
1. Suitability
Your preferred Marine Rescue NSW unit/s will contact you to discuss your EOI and suitability; they’ll also let you know current vacancies within the unit/s. As all Marine Rescue NSW units are run by volunteers, it may take up to 5 business days to respond to your EOI.
2. Interview/Information/Induction Events
You may be invited to attend an informal interview or familiarisation tour of the unit base at your preferred unit/s.
3. Application Form
After you have submitted your EOI and made contact and/or attended an interview with your preferred unit, you will be advised if your EOI has been accepted. If so, you will be invited to apply to become a member of Marine Rescue NSW.
4. Acceptance
The Unit Commander (or delegate) and Executive will review your application as well as undertake an identity check that facilitates a National Police Check. Once your application has been accepted and Police checks cleared, you will receive a welcome pack from Marine Rescue NSW and your unit will contact you to get you started as a new member.
5. Provisional Member
Upon joining, you will be a Provisional Member and receive a provisional uniform. You will need to complete a minimum of six months before you can be considered for full ‘Regular’ membership of MRNSW by the Unit Executive.
6. Regular Member
Once you have completed your training and the minimum of six months’ service, the Unit Executive will review your membership and you can, at that time, progress to a regular member. As a Regular Member, you will receive a full uniform and will have the right to vote at Unit Meetings and Elections.
7. Annual Renewal
Each year you will need to renew your volunteer membership. This is to ensure you have undertaken the minimum requirements to maintain your qualifications.
